Biotech crops - economic potential meets public resistance
Genetically modified or engineered crops have been a highly topical issue in the media for a long time, where news of technological breakthroughs is usually followed by intensive, ethical discussions about the moral aspects of the technology. In the debate people are caught between the benefits that innovation or technological advancements bring on the one hand and moral concerns on the other.

Chemical giant BASF has begun using renewable polyethylene (PE) for the packaging of its insecticide Regent 800 WG in early 2012. The official supplier of the material is Braskem SA, which runs a 200,000 tonne plant in Triunfo in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
