Commission missed warning signs on horsemeat fraud, say MEPs

The European Commission came under fire for its handling of the ongoing horsemeat scandal yesterday, with one MEP claiming Brussels had failed to learn the lessons from earlier cases of food fraud.
Irish Liberal member Liam Aylward said Operation Opson, a Europol investigation carried out in 2011, should have sent a clear warning over the dangers of food-related crimes.
