BPI to close three of four LFTB plants at least temporarily
Monday March 26 2012
As retailers across the country pledge to remove ground beef products made with lean finely textured beef, the company that originated the process has announced it is closing three of the four plants where the product is made.
Craig Letch, a spokesperson for Dakota Dunes, S.D.-based Beef Products Inc. (BPI), reportedly told the Associated Press today that, due to decreased demand, it will be closing, at least temporarily, plants in Waterloo, Iowa, Garden City, Kan., and Amarillo, Texas. As a result, up to 600 employees will be out of work.
