Unica says mills to spend $3.4 bln on cane renewal

Brazilian sugarcane companies will spend as much as BRL6 bln ($1=BRL1.82) this year to renew ageing plantations as the nation seeks to boost supply of ethanol, Bloomberg reported.
Cane companies may replant as many as 1.5 mln ha, or 15% of their fields, said Antonio de Padua Rodrigues, Technical Director for the sugarcane association Unica. Last year the nation renewed 1 mln ha.
