Asparagus escapes freezing weather
Tuesday February 21 2012
FREEZING weather in China has not damaged the asparagus crop, local sources say.
China grows mainly white asparagus, which is cultivated underground, but European traders speculated that the double-digit minus temperatures might nonetheless be sufficient to cause damage. A contact said: "The cold snap was bad but not too serious. I don't see a huge impact; in fact not much has been affected throughout all the crops in China."
