EU must invest more in 'bioeconomy' sectors - Commission

The EU must step up public and private funding for research and innovation into the 'bioeconomy', the European Commission has urged in a new strategy targeting a more sustainable use of renewable resources.
The capacity of EU agriculture to produce biomass for both food and industrial purposes will have to be "sustainably increased" as global demand grows, says the Commission, eyeing greater synergy between bioeconomy sectors and the CAP.
