NZ milk shake-up proposals slammed by Fonterra
Wednesday January 25 2012
Proposals by the NZ government to clamp down on farmgate milk pricing and make more Fonterra milk available to its competitors have been attacked by the co-op, with chairman Sir Henry van der Heyden claiming that the changes would hinder New Zealanders' access to affordable milk.
Calling for submissions to the ministry of agriculture (MAF)'s set of preferred options for amendments to the Dairy Industry Restructuring Act (DIRA) and the Raw Milk Regulation, David Carter, primary industries minister, said the aim was to promote a more transparent and efficient dairy market and provide a "durable platform for the continuing growth of a competitive and innovative dairy sector."
