Vietnam's tuna exports surge
Thursday July 29 2010
VIETNAM has seen a massive increase in its tuna exports in the first half of this year, with sales to East Asia and North America compensating for the contraction in deliveries to the EU due to tighter access rules.
Vietnamese customs data show that, by 15 June, the country had exported 37 500 tonnes of tuna worth USD147 million, a year-on-year increase of 71% in volume and 98% in value, says the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP). There were three-digit value increases to major markets such as South Korea (up 412%), Taiwan (329%) and Canada (198%).
