Huge maize crop and sugar potential will drive Tongaat
Wednesday July 28 2010
SOUTH Africa's Tongaat Hulett hopes to benefit from the largest maize crop in nearly three decades and its efforts to maximise its installed sugar production capacity over the coming year.
Peter Staude, chief executive at Tongaat Hulett, said that a 13m-tonne South African maize harvest, the largest in 29 years, would push the domestic price of maize in the year to July 2011 close to the world price, significantly raising the competitiveness of its starch operations.
