Tuesday February 09 2010
FIVE trees infected with the Huanglongbing (HLB, or greening) citrus disease have been found in Mexico's eastern Quintana Roo state, according to Daniel Baruch, president of the Plant Health Committee in the state. He added that the discovery has been followed by the launch of a concerted eradication and control campaign in a bid to suppress the disease.
Two of the infected trees were detected in the state capital Chetumal, two in Calderitas municipality and one in Othón P. Blanco municipality. Baruch added that a sanitary cordon was being maintained around the principal citrus producing regions of José María Morelos and Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
