Wednesday November 25 2009
Just in time for Thanksgiving, Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) has introduced the Poison Free Poultry Act (HR 3624), calling for a stop to the use of roxarsone, a form of arsenic commonly used in chicken and poultry feed, from being used in the U.S. food supply. The bill, announced on Monday, has the support of the Union of Concerned Scientists, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Humane Society of the United States and the Center for Food Safety, which helped draft the bill, according to a statement from the group released after the bill's introduction.
